Teatime Tuesday #25

Welcome back to Teatime Tuesday! And thank you for your patience with last week’s delays.

Today’s tea was fairly typical for me. For my afternoon treat, I had a Triple Berry scone from Paradise Bakery. (I’m not actually sure which three berries were used in the recipe! I even checked their website, but couldn’t find the answer. I’ll have to ask them next time.) It had a sweet glaze on top, so it felt a little redundant to add jam and clotted cream–but I went ahead and did it anyway.

For my tea, I steeped up a cup of Sansia Black, purchased from Butiki Teas (which is now closed, sadly). Sansia Black is very smooth, especially for a straight black tea, and it has a honey-like undertone to it. As I’d hoped, the honey notes went really well with the sweetness of the scone.

Teatime Tuesday #21

Hello! Once again, it’s Teatime Tuesday.

I had another scone this week from Wildflower Bread Company (much like my cranberry scone a while back). This is their chocolate chip version, and I must say, it’s delicious. Actually, it’s one of my best friend’s favorite desserts for teatime, which was how I was introduced to the company. While I’m generally a scone + jam + clotted cream advocate, I make an exception for chocolate-flavored scones like this one, and eat them plain. This one is really buttery with a slight glaze, so it doesn’t need any added sweetness to taste amazing.

I paired the scone with a roasted tea that has subtle cocoa notes, Verdant’s Laoshan Roasted Oolong. If you’re a fan of black tea but have been looking to try a partially roasted oolong, I would definitely recommend this one. (It’s almost out of stock on their website, so you’ll have to act fast! Or you can wait until another harvest comes in.) This tea has loads of flavor and is easy to steep, rather than being overly delicate. The roast gives it a savory quality, compared to greener oolongs that are more floral. It’s one of my favorite oolongs, since I tend to be partial to the more oxidized ones.

Teatime Tuesday #19

Hello again, everyone. To make up for my absence last week, this post features two different teatimes. (Yes, indeed! Two for the price of one! Not that they cost anything in the first place! Exclamation points!)

Before I left on vacation last week, I made scones, with the help of a handy mix I purchased from the World Market. Mostly, I just wanted some kind of pastry so I could try out my new preserves (blueberry and blackcurrant this time). I also had some clotted cream on hand, which was excellent as usual.

My tea for that particular afternoon was Cinnamon Vanilla Squash, a flavored white tea from Butiki Teas (which as I’ve mentioned before, is sadly closing down). It’s a unique flavor, light and buttery with a hint of spice. I’ll be sad when my limited supply of it runs out.

As a bonus to make up for missing last week, here’s a photo from my teatime while I was on vacation! My sister generously allowed me to accompany her on a birthday trip to Disneyland. We stayed at the Grand Californian, which is where I had this. The sandwiches were delicious and the scones were good too, but the chocolate-covered strawberries were definitely the highlight. As for my tea, it was the English Breakfast blend from Twinings.

Teatime Tuesday #13

Welcome back to teatime! Today I was lucky enough to be able to sample my sister’s homemade buttermilk scones, which are fluffy and sweet and oh-so-delicious. (As you may have noticed, dear reader, I like scones. A lot.)

I paired the scones with some berry preserves and one of my all-time favorite teas, the Premium Taiwanese Assam from Butiki. Butiki Teas is a small company with lots of great teas, including straight blends and some really original flavors. (As you can imagine, it’s really popular on Steepster.) Sadly, it’s in the process of closing, so I stocked up on all my favorites a few months ago.

Their Premium Taiwenese Assam is a straight tea with huge dark leaves. When steeped, it smells like berries—so much so that my friends all assumed it was a flavored tea when they smelled it! It’s also a black tea, but so sweet and smooth that it has no astringency at all. There’s even a note of cocoa in it, which just adds to the deliciousness.

Teatime Tuesday #7

Hello again! I hope all you Americans out there had an awesome Thanksgiving, and everyone else had an awesome Thursday. Today’s post features my favorite snack to pair with tea: scones.

Scones are serious business. If you want to do them right, you need jam or preserves, plus clotted cream. So for today, I picked up some clotted cream and berry preserves from the World Market, and a cranberry scone from Wildflower Bread Company.

Scones!

These preserves are fantastic, by the way. They’re made with strawberry, raspberry, and blackcurrant. (The first two are my favorite berries, and the third is also delicious, apparently.)

Scones! Also tea.

Anyway, to eat scones, just smear as much jam and cream onto the scone as you can stand. Smear it together all in a creamy sticky mess. Then enjoy!

Scones again! Also tea again.

And of course no teatime is complete without tea. Today’s selection is Golden Snail from Whispering Pines Tea Company. It’s a smooth black tea with notes of bread and honey, which really complement the scone.
